Wooden Hex Sign / Barn Star Workshop

Hex signs are the iconic imagery of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. From traditional installations on barns to the trendy logo integrations of today, they have come to symbolize Lancaster and the surrounding areas.

Now you can design your own hex sign. We guide you through every step of the process. But we give you plenty of options so that each sign created will be unique in design, shapes used, and color. After laying out your hex sign, you will paint each piece and then glue them into place.

Students start with a painted 10.5" diameter wooden circle that is 1/8" thick (MDF). Students will begin by browsing through our large library of wooden, laser-cut shapes. An easy project for all skill levels- the main spines of their sign/star can be pegged onto their circle base using tiny pre-drilled holes in each. This allows for perfect alignment. Other pieces, including borders, are then added around the main spines. Students will paint their pieces using quality paint markers (no mess). To finish your piece, we provide you with small bottles of wood glue for gluing each piece into place. Users will also be supplied with adhesive low-profile hangers to attach to the back of their boards for hanging.
