Visible Mending for Jeans

Learn how to breathe new life into your favorite pair of jeans(or other cotton items) using sashiko— a traditional Japanese mending technique that turns repair into decoration. Learn the basics in this introductory class. We will start with two different techniques on how to layer scrap fabrics to cover holes in your clothes along with how to use sashiko thread and stitches to hold the fabric in place. Delve into your creative ideas for a signature look. All work is done by hand.

Supply List

Kit that is included in your class fee contains —sashiko thread, needles and a white chalk marking pencil

Bring the following supplies:

Thimble - not a sashiko thimble

Needle puller, two thimbles or pliers to pull your thread through the layers. You only need one option

Fabric- bring what you want to repair. We will be only working with Cotton, jeans, pants other garments, etc.. Not sure, bring it all.

Patching material matching the fabric type for repair (cotton). Small scale prints work best along with solids, etc...

Fabric scissors and small scissors to cut thread

Clear small ruler you can see through to mark fabric

If the white chalk marking pencil will not work on your fabric you can also bring

a blue washout marker

All sewing is done by hand
