(SOLD OUT) Wonky Log Cabin

Looking for a project that will make a dent in your scrap bin? These free-form log cabin quilt blocks will turn all those scraps into a beautiful log cabin quilt!

We’ll discuss scrap storage as well as color and composition for block construction. Then, stitch a quilt any size you wish!

Sewing Machines will be generously provided for students by Bernina/ Hinkletown Sewing Center

No pattern needed!

Fabric Requirements:

Simply bring an assortment of small squares and strips of scrap fabric!  We’ll be working with squares and strips of fabric at least 1-1/2” wide and up to 2-1/2” or 3”.  Larger scraps of fabric can be cut down to the sizes needed.  A plastic shoebox full of scraps will be enough to make a quilt, but if you don’t have that many scraps saved yet, you can still get started on making blocks.

As you are gathering your scraps, feel free to bring any scraps you are no longer in love with to share with others.  I will do the same!

We’ll chat about color and composition during class.  I separate my scraps by color and love the look of a quilt out of all one color.  These quilts are so busy that I find it helps to tame them by color or at least narrow it down to some sort of color palette.  Be sure to include a variety of lights and darks; I used “loud” low volume fabrics as well.  You could add an accent square in the center of each block out of another color to tie them all together.  Or, you can simply go crazy and use anything and everything you have in terms of scraps! You may need to cut into your stash, but the fun of this quilt is to see if you can make it simply

from scraps that wouldn’t have gotten used otherwise.
