About the event
Sashiko Sneakers
Give your worn out sneakers a fresh, artful makeover with sashiko—the centuries-old Japanese technique of visible mending on fabric. This hands-on
class empowers you with a creative, sustainable approach to sneaker repair and personalization. All stitching is done by hand. You will need to have strong fingers to work the needle through the thick fabrics. Tips will be given.
Kit that is included in your class fee contains- 2 sashiko threads, needles
Bring the following supplies:
-Clean sneakers-cotton or mesh, No leather. Converse brand works well along with any mesh fabrics. Most sneakers are made out of some kind of mesh.
-Depending on the color of your sneakers you can work with those colors with your fabric choices. All Cotton sneakers work well if you want to cover the whole shoe with fabric. I bought a new pair of Converse and have covered the whole sneaker.
-Fabrics- cotton, small prints, scraps that coordinate, sharing is optional
-Needle puller or pliers to pull your thread through the layers. You only need one option.
-2 thimbles- for different fingers, not a sashiko thimble
-Marking pencil
-Small clear ruler you can see through to mark fabric
-Stiletto or small very sharp awl
-Pins
-Bees wax or thread gloss
-Threads- cotton, thin weight only. You will receive one white and choose another color in the class that is included in your kit. Bring other threads that you might want to work with and we can discuss your options
-Basic sewing supplies
All stitching is done by hand.
