About the event
Machine Applique: Ohio Rose
Skill Level: Confidant Beginner
Project Title: “Ohio Rose” (22.5” X 22.5”)
Description: This classic pattern has its roots in the English Tudor Rose, but became a favorite of Ohio Quilters who made up the pattern in red and green in the 1840s-1860s, and in pink and green during the 1930s. Let’s “kick up” tradition by creating our own version in the 21st century: learn to do “traditional” turned-edge applique by machine! This class will teach you how to use freezer paper to cut out your sections and turn all raw edges under. Sections will be stitched down using invisible thread and a “blind-hem” stitch. The technique is easy and results are neat and virtually invisible.
· All students will be provided with the pattern for the block at no extra cost.
Supplies Needed:
18” X 18” square of freezer paper, (*unless we want to provide one roll for the class to share) sharp pencil, washable glue stick, small, sharp scissors, 20” X 20” fabric for background, small pieces of fabric (4 colors) for the rose.
Additional Costs: None. Should students wish to have everything supplied for them, the instructor will have kits available at a cost of $24.00
(1 spool Bottom Line thread ($8.00) 1 spool invisible thread ($6.00) Glue Stick ($3.00) Freezer Paper (n/a) Fabrics ($7.00)
