Introduction to Square in a Square Technique-NE Ohio

Join us for a 3 hour class utilizing the Square in a Square ruler designed by Jodi Barrows. Learn to make star points without having to cut and sew triangles. Just start with a square and sew strips on all 4 sides then trim with your ruler. It’s like MAGIC!!

Join us Saturday afternoon for an introduction class to the Square in a Square System. Start with a square in the middle and sew strips on all four sides. Create a simple Square inside a Square with four easy trims (Option 1). Or use the same process to create perfect flying geese (option 3) and half square triangles (Option 4). You can create 44 different options with one ruler or a countless number of designs when combining options.

During class we will create a Patriotic Block using this amazing Square in a Square (SNS) System to create a basic Option 1 square inside a square and an Option 3 Flying Geese to create perfect star points. I will show you tricks and tips for using the SNS system and create units in ANY SIZE. I will demonstrate how to use color as a mechanism to create an optical illusion when joining square units. I will teach how to read the lines of the Square in a Square ruler to create units that will precisely match points to align with our human elements of sewing.

As time allows, I will introduce advanced elements of the Square in a Square System. How do you create a Flying Goose inside a Flying Goose (Option 15)? Step up the process and start with a diamond to create Canadian Geese (Option 18) with long narrow points. Observe the Option 17 to create the Bouquet Block. Did you know you can use the Square in a Square System to create the Storm at Sea? No template cutting needed. You can also create Mariner’s Compass style blocks without paper-piecing. Just start with a diamond. The list goes on and on. One ruler with 44 Options and the combination of options is unlimited in ANY SIZE.

With the charts of the Square in a Square System, the math has been calculated to easily combine options creating new designs. This is my “GO TO” system for all design work. The math has already been done!

Supplies needed:

Class Kit Pen and paper for taking notes (a camera on your phone is also useful to capture details)

Rotary Cutter & mat

Basic Sewing supplies (scissors, pins, white thread, seam ripper, etc)

Iron / ironing mat Sewing machines provided by event

Kit Fee: $40-  Class Kit includes Ruler/Book combo: The 9” x 12” ruler is packaged with Quick & Easy Quilts pattern book which contains 5 options, 21 blocks and 6 patterns. We will also PRECUT the pieces of the patriotic block and have it ready for you to sew during class. This makes for a valuable class time to learn about the amazing Square in a Square System.
