About the event

Do you love the look of hand quilting, but you're short on time? Big Stitch Hand Quilting could be the solution you've been waiting for!    This method allows you to quickly hand quilt your quilt tops and other projects, adding that special hand-stitched touch. You'll use a larger needle and a heavier thread or perle cotton to achieve beautiful stitches.

Come learn the necessary tips, techniques and supplies for this newly popular method of hand quilting, as well as traditional hand quilting.

*Kit must be purchased for class. Cost is $5 and has been added to the ticket price below.

Kit contents:

Size 5 embroidery needle

Size 8 perle cotton

Traditional hand quilting needles and quilting thread

Please bring:

Your favorite thimble

Marking tool options:

Hera marker and acrylic ruler

Blue painters tape

Clover Chaco Liner

Removable marking pencil or chalk

Small scissors to snip thread

14" or 18" Quilters Hoop

Basting supplies:

Small safety pins, or

Hand sewing needle and regular thread for basting

Supplies for quilt sandwich:

- 2 – 20/22" squares of solid fabric, or choose a large-scale floral print for one of your fabrics.

- 22” square of batting:  Cotton and Wool batting squares will be available for cash purchase the day of class.  Warm and Natural does not needle easily and is not recommended for hand quilting.

If you would like to bring your own batting, any of the following battings needle easily and are ideal choices:

o Quilter’s Dream 100% Cotton Request Loft (thinnest batting)

o Mountain Mist Cream Rose 100% cotton

o Quilter’s Dream Wool

o Hobbs Wool

o Some poly battings work well also, but be sure to check the label or website to be sure.

Additional supplies:

Silicone needle pullers will be available for cash purchase as well.
