Beginner Hand Quilting -NE Ohio

Students will learn all the basics of hand quilting using a hoop. They will learn the “rocking stitch” that is used with hand quilting and we will also discuss supplies that are used. This will be a take-home project. Students will be provided with a pre-marked and pre-basted 15” x 15” quilt “sandwich”.

12” quilt hoop

Quilting needles (also called “betweens”) I recommend sizes 9 and 10…You’ll figure out what works best for you.

Hand quilting thread…I used to tell students to get white or off-white but I have had some say that they prefer learning with a colored thread because they can see the stitches more clearly and know what needs improvement.

Thimble…I prefer the ones with a raised edge around the top to prevent the needle from slipping

Sewing machines will be generously provided by Bernina/ Chestnut Ridge Sewing

Shared cutting mats, rotary cutters and irons will be provided.
